A lovely Birthday Dinner

A friend of mine took me to SoCo for my birthday in July. Its a resturant in Downtown Brooklyn that offers Southern Fused Cuisine which is a mix of cajun/creole, barbecue and soul food. I was excited to try the new place out. We were coming from Queens in the rain. Worry set in when we realized that we were stuck in traffic and it was getting late. So I called to assure that the kitchen would still be open for us. When we arrived, the host was more than accommodating and assured me that we had ample amount of time. Then he charmingly complemented us on our appearance. He politely walked us to our table and introduced us to our waiter for the night.

Our waiter was charming as well. He gave us our menu along with a charming smile. We sat there laughing, talking and taking our surroundings in. I loved the fact that as hip hop and R&B instrumentals were softly being played in the background, a Violinist was there accompanying the music. The abiance was calm and laid back. Bar fully stocked and the staff had southern hospitality.

THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!!!!! I was so taken back by the presentation and blown away by the flavors that were dancing in my mouth. I ordered the red velvet waffle and with fried chicken. ***SIGH***

New Found Love

The chicken pieces were so juicy and succulent in the inside and crispy on the outside. The red velvet waffles were  phenomenal. As soon as it hit my tongue its melted like butter.  My friend ordered the Shrimp, lobster and grits dish. I must admit that this dish was better than mine. I felt like I was back in New Orleans. the grits were perfectly cooked, and the seafood was so savory. With each bite, it made you want more. When she couldn't finish her meal, I finished it for her. Our  Red Lemonade (Fresh muddled cranberry, vodka & fresh lemonade) was a very refreshing way to enjoy the meals.

I really love SoCo and will make this one of my favorite spots. I told my best friend that when he comes to visit, SoCo will be the first place I take him .....and it will be my treat! lol
